Tiffany Lay's profile

American Institute of Chemical Engineers

I serve as the Publicity Coordinator for UC Berkeley's student-run American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).  My role is to communicate events planned by AIChE to the rest of the Chemical Engineering and College of Chemistry student body.  AIChE's main role is to provide industry infosessions where we host companies in the Bay Area to recruit students for internships or full-time opportunities.  Companies we have hosted include Chevron, ExxonMobil and P&G.  For every event, I am in charge of creating and distributing fliers to the student body in order to increase interest and turnout at the events.  In addition, I elect two student representatives in each class to act as liasions between the student body and the AIChE officers.
For the first time this year, AIChE has introduced a committee system as a way to encourage members of the Chemical Engineering community to get involved.  Thus, in addition to my role as an officer, I run the Publicity and Media Committee, a subgroup that works on several media projects such as video-editing and journalism.  Some of our accomplishments include assembling a promotional video for the annual UC Berkeley Big Give Competition, in which the College of Chemistry placed 4th among over 30 UC Berkeley departments.  The College of Chemistry raised $480,882 in 24 hours.

The committee has just completed its first semester run and overall, members feel that this is a great way for non-officers to enhance their leadership skills while contributing to the Chemical Engineering environment.

In addition, my team has created many publicity platforms for AIChE, including business cards and stand up banners, and we will also be producing the Senior Yearbook at the end of the school year.  We have also held LinkedIn Professional Photoshoots, all of which have had very large turnouts.  This semester, for the Senior Yearbook, we will be holding a Senior Photoshoot.

Although AIChE's main purpose is to provide professional opportunities to students, the officers are currently aiming to create a more social environment where members can find a community and home here at UC Berkeley.  For the Spring 2016 semester, we are focusing more on creating more events for the community as opportunities for camaraderie between the students.  One of the events we are planning is the annual Senior Banquet.  And for the first time ever my committee will be creating the first ever Chemical Engineering Senior Yearbook.
